(4) Akhieng Betireage (14 years) It was bright and calm day when I woke up very early in the morning. I had to bathe, took breakfast and dressed in my well ironed school uniform. After that I stared off to school. I found that people were just leaving. We were over forty pupils and our teachers. We were there on an educational tour involved practical learning. We (pupil) were very happy as we came in closed contact with bus and still, had chance to enter and sit in the bus. Many were curious, wanting to find out more concerning the structures of the SMHPP. And there was someone at hand, ready to do just that. He also took tour off to be with us, show us round as well as answer our never ending questions. We were thrilled by every thing we saw. "We have never been Sondu/Miriu Project. We always see it from a distance. Today we are so happy to have this opportunity to own enter the tunnel and see everything in reality" we added. Commenting on the tour , the headmaster, Mr Otieno Magawa, said "We have realized the importance of practical learning where children learn 80 % through seeing and 20 % through theory. We believe our children will benefit from such education tours." Pupils always view such building as very unique professional and wonder how they can get there . The local mason are ready to educate those who have interest in building houses. Never look two ways to leave your works. Always be determine to achieve whatever you aim for. We leant about some advantages of building SMHPP. We also saw how some work for several machines. After all it is not often one saw some vehicle. One could sense and feel their keenness to learn more as they closely followed the words of the instructor. In headrace tunnel one was on the top end, he seems as if he was a goat, the whole afternoon was filled with fun. "It is very important to students because they learn practically", he declared. We visited the office where we drank sodas. The school intends to involve children in tours as part of their learning activities. The deputy headmaster, Mr Ploo J, observed " We believed these children have a bright future and it is our responsibility to provide them with the knowledge." |
